For nearly twelve years, Midge Crystle has directed the Nazareth Project, a non-profit US organization dedicated to supporting Nazareth Hospital and School of Nursing, along with other smaller projects to help the people of the region.
In January, 2012, Mrs. Crystle handed the position of executive director to her colleague of nine years, Karen Miller Rauch. Midge will continue to serve on the Nazareth Project board of directors.
During her tenure of service, Midge has successfully guided the affairs of the organization with vision, grace, and commitment. Her leadership was enhanced by her dependence on God and humble willingness to serve however needed.
A registered nurse, Mrs. Crystle’s involvement with Nazareth’s work of healing and education dates back to 1993, when she volunteered for at the hospital as a prenatal nurse. She was there with her husband, Dr. C. Deans Crystle, a Nazareth Project board member, in 1993 and again in 1995.
Following her husband’s death, Midge joined the Nazareth Project Board of Directors, and, in 1999, participated in the international bike ride to support of the hospital. The following year, when the need for an “interim” executive director arose, Mrs. Crystle stepped forward. She generously offered to donate her time, and would continue to do so for the next eleven and a half years.
Midge’s time of leadership with Nazareth Project saw $3.4million in grant support to the hospital. With these funds, medical, surgical, and diagnostic equipment were obtained, as well as IT upgrades completed throughout hospital departments. The School of Nursing received over $83,000 in private contributions and foundations grants through the Nazareth Project during this period. In 2009, Midge attended the dedication of the newly constructed operating rooms, a project for which Nazareth Project had raised $1.35million in federal grants as well as gifts from individual donors.
Midge, on behalf of the many you have touched with your kindness and hard work, we thank you. Thank you for your deep commitment and for your ongoing friendship to the staff of Nazareth Hospital and School of Nursing.
