Who can volunteer?

Men and women aged 18 and above, who are in good health, who desire to serve out of their Christian commitment, and who have the skills needed by the hospital.

Volunteers must be adaptable and ready to learn about other cultures and people.
They must speak good English; knowledge of Arabic or Hebrew is of great benefit.

How long will I stay?

Generally the length of stay for volunteers is between three to six months. Volunteers find that their time here is the most successful if they stay for a longer period of time, thus having time to become acquainted with the community and to build relationships with local people.

What About Short Term Volunteering?

From time to time, short-term (2-3 weeks) work groups of youths and adults are needed for specific projects. These "work parties" are organized by a church or community group. They raise funds for all their costs, travel together, and work together on their assignment.

What work will I do?

We try to match volunteer skills and the work that is needed. However, sometimes it is not possible to make a close match, and volunteers are encouraged to help out in other areas.

How much will it cost?

Transportation costs, travel and health insurance are the responsibility of the volunteer. Volunteers will want to bring money for incidental living costs and for personal travel and entertainment.

Will I get paid?

Hospital Volunteers receive room and board plus a small monthly stipend. Housing is provided on the hospital compound. Single persons will share a flat (apartment) with other single volunteers of the same sex. Volunteers eat the noon and evening meals in the hospital canteen.

Can I use my Medical Qualifications?

Registered nurses and doctors from abroad are welcome to apply, however, it is difficult for them to obtain licenses to practice in Israel.

Occasionally medical personnel volunteer in support roles to local staff or in educational roles.

What it is like to live in Nazareth?

Nazareth is a city of approximately 65,000 Arab residents, both Moslems and Christians.
Nearby is the Jewish city of Upper Nazareth. Volunteers will have contact with all these groups of people and will be enriched by their encounters.

As an ancient city, Nazareth has a great cultural and historical heritage for those who care to explore. Its residents are friendly and hospitable.

Located in the Galilee region of Israel, Nazareth is a good launching point for visiting the northern part of the country.

How do I apply?

You must fill out a volunteer application form, which is available from the hospital administration office.

Be aware that, though you may be available to serve, the hospital may not have openings immediately for volunteers in your area of interest. It is advisable to apply at least six months before you would like to come.
