11th June 2009 was a landmark day for Nazareth Hospital EMMS.
Although we still need your help to equip Room 4, we now have an Operating Room Complex fit for the 21st Century.
Photos of the transformation are here
Much of the Project was funded by USAID - the American Governmental overseas aid programme.
The celebrations were a perfect example of how our work brings together every group in the country to work for the people of Nazareth and the surrounding area.
The photo shows, Left to Right: US Ambassador Mr James B Cunningham, Head of Urology and Operating Rooms Manager Dr Basel Fahoum, Medical Director of the Hospital Dr Bishara Bisharat, the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem Bishop Suheil Darwani, British Ambassador Mr Mr Tom Phillips, Deputy Minister of Health Rabbi Yaakov Litzman
Dr Bishara Bisharat, Medical Director of Nazareth Hospital E.M.M.S captured the essence of what was in the hearts of all who attended the new OR Opening ceremonies in June.
An Arab, he spoke in Hebrew to an audience which included Christians, Moslems, Druze, Jews and westerners.
A translation of his remarks follows:
Dear Honourable Guests and the Family of the Nazareth Hospital,
It is my absolute joy and pleasure to be a partner in this festive ceremony.
If we look today within the Nazareth Hospital, we find, on the one hand, the most ancient operating rooms in the state; operating rooms in existence since 1923, and on the other hand, we find high up on the new sixth floor the protected operating rooms which are the most sophisticated in the land.
The ancient rooms symbolise 150 years of continuity of mission by the Nazareth Hospital, the oldest in the state, which, over the years has served the entire area including, at times, Jordan and Syria.
The old operating rooms symbolise for us the mission of the people who served for the last 150 years with the Hospitals values, (Respect for all, strive for excellence, openness and honesty, cooperation and partnership, unconditional service). Without this mission and these values, the Hospital could not have survived till today.
On this occasion, and on behalf of our staff, we promise to continue implementing and working by these values.
Our staff of doctors, nurses, technicians, and others, have been waiting for ten years for this day, for this ceremony; they fully deserve to work, from today and onwards, in these modern rooms.
The population of Nazareth and the surrounding area also fully merit this progress.
The new rooms symbolise our vision for the future and our commitment to provide the most progressive medical service that this hospital can achieve.
My Colleagues:
Today is not the end of a project but rather the beginning.
The vision of the hospital, built up by all the staff over the years, looks forward, not only to the high quality of medical care and excellent service to the population, but also to the academic development and medical research in each of the hospitals in Nazareth.
My Colleagues:
We wish, and are prepared, with God’s help, to be an important part of the fifth medical school to be established in the Galilee.
We will promote and initiate studies and research for the sake of the health of the population in our area. Through this, we intend to gain better understanding of the pathology, morbidity, and treatments required and to adapt them to population we serve.
Dear Guests:
The important target in our vision is not the research for research sake alone, but rather the resulting improvements and advancements in health for the benefit of the population. In doing so, we will continue the mission of many past years in the promotion of health in the area we respect and love.
